πŸ’Ί Understanding reserved seating tickets

Reserved seating tickets work a little differently from regular ticket types because they're connected to aΒ seating chart. This setup controls how many seats can be sold and how they appear to customers during checkout.

How reserved seating tickets work

Reserved seating ticket availability is based on two things:

  • The categories in your seating chart

  • The quantity you set for that ticket type

Even if you set a higher ticket quantity, you can't sell more seats than exist in your chart.

Example 1:
If your chart has 100 seats and your reserved seating ticket has been setup with quantity 50, only 50 tickets can be sold.

Example 2:
If your chart has 100 seats and your ticket type quantity is 150, you can still only sell 100 tickets.

Restrictions

Advanced options aren't available for reserved seating tickets, which means you won't be able to:

  • Set a minimum or maximum quantity per order

  • Use the Pay What You Can formula
  • Define a sales time frame for individual tickets
  • Use secret codes to reveal tickets
  • Create dependencies between tickets

Additionally, 100% discounts (via promo codes or vouchers) and free orders are not permitted for orders that include reserved seats, unless you have purchased prepaid credits. For instance, if you'd like to issue complimentary tickets with reserved seats you can use a 100% discount code plus prepaid credits: the order total will be 0 and you'll consume only one prepaid credit for the reserved seat.

Fees and usage

Each seat reservation counts as one chargeable usage, and normal ticketing fees still apply.

Example:
An order for 2 paid reserved seating tickets ($10 each) = 4 usage fees (2 for seat reservations + 2 for paid tickets).

If you're using prepaid credits, issuing one reserved seating ticket will decrement 2 credits.

Editing seat labels

Reserved seating tickets are linked to seats by their labels (row letters and seat numbers).

If you change these labels while your event is live, sold seats may become detached and appear available again, which can cause double bookings.

To avoid this, only edit your seating chart when your event is in draft mode.

If this happens accidentally, changing the labels back to their original names will automatically reattach the sold seats.

Editing category keys

Category keys are used for advanced implementations that aren't supported yet.

If you change them while your event is live, your seating chart may stop appearing on the event page.

To prevent this, we strongly recommend keeping the default (system-generated) category keys.

If you've changed them by mistake, simply revert the keys to their original values: this will automatically restore your seating chart.
